When a soldier dies on the battlefield there are events set in motion with one goal, to get the fallen soldier home to his family. As, with any funeral or memorial service, it's important to pay respects, to share memories, to say goodbye and to have some kind of closure, so the grieving process can begin. It's no different on the battlefield, except, there is little time to grieve because they have to return to battle.
With every memorial service held in the battlefield you will find a Battlefield Cross, also known as "The Soldiers Cross". The helmet and identification tags signify the fallen soldier. There is and inverted rifle with bayonet in the ground which signals a time for prayer, a break in the action to pay tribute to that comrade. The helmet and dog tags signify the fallen soldier, airman, seaman, or marine, and, the combat boots represent the final march of the last battle.
The video I chose for this post really show the raw emotions our troops have to deal with. They are all heroes.
